Who Are We?
Vagabond’s Hat are an exciting new British circus theatre company whose work blends the heart stopping beauty and thrill of circus skills with poetic narratives and live music to create performances that are joyful, stimulating and often surreal. The company was formed by life long friends Augusts Dakteris and Alex Flanagan, who share in the joys and hard work that it takes to lead the company forward from strength to strength. Both Augusts and Alex produce, direct and perform within the company's productions, which aspire to present collaborative opportunities to work with professionals from all corners of the performance industry.
Augusts Dakteris - Company Director
As a child Augusts wanted to be a pilot, but he ended up finding other ways to fly.... He moved to London from a small rural village in England at the age of 21. He took with him a pair of stilts and some fire props to search out a career as a performer. After 3 years of working in bars and call centres, Augusts finally got the chance to run away with the circus. Four months later after a lot of hard work and training he auditioned for the UK's leading circus school, The Circus Space. He was offered a place. During his three years at the Circus Space he specialised in Aerial Straps and graduated in July 2012. He has since performed with NoFit State Circus, Le Prato and his own company, Vagabond`s Hat.
Alex Flanagan - Company Director
In 2009 Alex graduated from Bishop Groseteste University with a BA (Hons) degree in Drama in the Community. Fuelled with the passion the course had given him to use the arts as a tool for community development, he became a founding member of Lincoln based community arts organisation, Jestival C.I.C. Through his work with Jestival and Vagabond's Hat he has begun to satisfy his lifelong passion for creativity within the performance arts, providing community driven projects and developing an ever diversifying repertoire of performance work. As a multi-disciplined artist Alex's skills as a musician, actor, fire artist, street performer and tutor have seen him tour nationally with music ensembles, work with the NoFit State Circus and produce work for festivals, markets, theatres and local authorities throughout the UK.
